|
The Project: Coliseo de Puerto Rico is a state-of-the-art multipurpose arena for concerts, sports and other entertainment productions. The versatile arena accommodates a variety of productions, from a 3,500-seat theater setting to concerts of 18,000 people.
The Painter: Certa ProPainter, Bayamon, Puerto Rico
The Paint: Epo-Plex Multi-Mil WB Epoxy Finish PrepRite 200 Interior Latex Primer ProMar 200 Interior Eg-Shel Wood Classics Interior Oil Stain Wood Classics Waterborne Polyurethane Varnish
The Challenge: "The height and shape of the interior was a major challenge as was the huge external steel framing," says Ivan Chaves of Sherwin-Williams. "Due to the complexity of the exterior and weather exposure in the Caribbean, we also recommended industrial-grade products to extend the life of the coatings."
A variety of primers were used, including Cement-Plex 875 for concrete and masonry, High Solid Alkyd Metal Primer for ferrous metal, and DTM Acrylic for zinc-coated metal. Epo-Plex waterbased epoxy was selected for the topcoat on these substrates for its high performance, low VOC, low odor formula that dries to a tough, tile-like finish with excellent gloss and color retention and resistance to chemicals, moisture, mildew staining, abrasion and continuous washings.
Wood Classics products were used on wood surfaces, and most of the drywall was coated with a system of PrepRite 200 primer and ProMar 200 topcoat.
