7 Steps To A Perfect Restoration

Historic restoration can be a lucrative market for residential repaint companies. For those new to this type of work, here are some tips from Martin Armstrong, owner of Martin James Enterprises of Wilton, New Hampshire.

  • Expect the unexpected.

  • Don’t underestimate the costs of prep work.

  • Don’t take on restoration unless you’re ready to work hard.

  • Scraping is grueling work. Stay hydrated.

  • Neatness counts. Clean up at the end of each day, leaving no evidence you were there except a fresh coat of paint.

  • Do some easier repaints in between tough restoration jobs to give your body a break.

  • Take photos of all stages so customers can see your progress. You can also email them to absentee owners.

  • Utilize your Sherwin-Williams rep. Customers feel more comfortable about the project when a paint expert accompanies you on jobsite visits.
